Artist Feature: Hellen Jo

I am really obsessed with Hellen Jo, self-described "asshole living and working in Burbank". She does awesome drawings of badass chicks, among other stuff, and says she's "informed mostly by alternative comics and midcentury as well as modern illustration".

"Bay Area Native", inspired by the Daniel Johnston song, “Devil Town”.

"Pool Skate"

Oh yeah, she also made this Crash & the Boys poster, so really, what more do you want?

  1. Hi Annika, thanks for the post! I know some art blogs are saying I "draw heavily on Edo period Japan" but that's very inaccurate. I don't know shit about Edo art; I'm informed mostly by alternative comics and midcentury as well as modern illustration.

Anyway, I'm glad you enjoy my stuff!

  2. Thank you so much for the response! It's awesome to hear from you, especially on this blog that I assumed no one read because all of my followers are related to me. I would hate to have an inaccurate description of your work, so I've changed it. I actually studied the Edo period, and I can see where maybe your work is reminiscent of Japanese prints, but perhaps that could be said of a lot of modern illustration.
Again, so cool to hear from you, and I'm sorry about the misinformation.
